Snook
I don't think anyone complains about those that come around and ask to take your rubbish. However, there are a lot who go around and steal things.
Tomm06
Most people don't hate what they do, it's the fact that they take without asking. I've had an exhaust system and a washing machine stolen off my front with-in a day of them being there (not that I mind, since they saved me a job) but they still should knock on the door and ask first. They would find they would get more stuff aswell picture this; ''Hi, we're scrap men, and wondered if that old wheel barrow was wanted? or can we take it?'' ''Oh sure, yeah take it...infact heres some old such and such that I need shifting...want that too?'' Everyones happy, no ones a theiving gypsy bell end. medusa
If you are walking in off the street into my garden without permission then you have no reason being there. If, whilst you're there, you pick up something that doesn't belong to you (which is not visible from the road, it's in my back garden) and take it away then that's theft. Plain and simple, no 'well it looks tatty' takes away from the fact that it belongs to me and it's on my private property and it may well not be rubbish at all. I caught someone trying to remove a brand new radiator that had only been put outside the door a matter of a couple of hours after being delivered- he was escorted off the premises by a very protective german shepherd. I also caught someone trying to make off with garden tools which were in the outhouse and someone trying to reach tools in my neighbour's outhouse by bending back the hasp on the padlock to get his arm inside. I understand that those who are genuine scrap dealers would be horrified to find themselves lumped in with those who are just thieves, but I'm afraid that's the truth these days when there are so many people around who take children's bikes from their own back garden. Some scrap men take it and they get money for it that should be my money. Yes sometimes I am happy for the scrap men to take things, such as an hour after my flue was taken out of my chimney someone came asked for it and I was happy for them to take it but not everything that looks like scrap is scrap or for the someone else to make money from. TJC1
A scrap man tried to take my metal mirror frames when I was moving house-I'd laid all this stuff out on the garden. It doesnt look like scrap. He asked me but only because I came out of the house, otherwise he would've stolen the lot. Something really should be done about thieving scrap man, not the ones which are trying to make an honest living, the ones that trespass and steal other peoples property.
