thats just one country we give aid to, i was hoping someone had some figures to show it was worth our while giving this aid in return for what we receive in business

In 2010 Britain imported £748m of goods from Pakistan and exported £438m giving a total bilateral trade value of £1.186billion.

In contrast the total UK expenditure for direct financial aid in 2010/2011 was £1.190 billion...

In 2010/11 DFID provided bilateral assistance to 78 countries, of which 37 countries received direct financial aid . These 37 countries received a total of £2,271m in 2010/11 (of which £1,190m was direct financial aid); excluding humanitarian assistance this totalled £2,155. This is equivalent to 85 per cent of DFID bilateral country specific expenditure (excluding humanitarian assistance), down from 91 per cent in 2009/10.

..of which £203million went to Pakistan (table 9 from second to bottom link), this is an increase from £140m in the previous year, primarily down to the flooding experienced in Pakistan.
