MrIan
Broomhead Hall which stood at the at the head of Ewden valley is unfortunately long gone. The story was that the stone was exported to America. I've always wondered if this was true and if so does anyone know where it ended up ? Sedgie
Hi Try the Stocksbridge & District History Society Website for some information and photos of Broomhead Hall. the site is on stocksbridgehs.co.uk sorry can't post links yet. The Archivist from the society told me the following about the stone. "I do know, having questioned Neil Lindley who demolished it, that although it was supposedly shipped to America, that was not true, and the stone was used locally". Hope that helps Sedgie
MrIan
Hello Sedgie, Thanks for taking the time to reply I went to a couple of the Society's meetings in 2011 and hopefully will do so again - bit remote at the moment. Google Earth appears to show just a space where the Hall was. Surprised nothing has been built considering some of the things which have appeared further down the valley.
