Allah sees pigs as being unclean animals and seeing as the Quran is meant to be taken literally, if he says don't eat it, Muslims don't eat it, with little thought for the reason. The reason doesn't matter, like why can't they cut their beard (to below a certain length)? I don't know, the reason doesn't matter, but that's what Allah says and what Allah says, Muslims follow.
