whiteley
how can they legally offer a price then state that the rose is compulsory for an extra £20, the price by law should include the extra £20 if you "have" to have it Sounds like someone at the Star is breaching the sales act here!! The price of the notice does includes the £20.
speedbirdone
A text message to announce a death is a little impersonal but if done correctly I see there been nothing wrong with using the many social networking sites to announce a death. Does anyone actually still buy the Sheffield Star these days ?

whiteley
well thats not what the OP stated, they were told its an EXTRA £20 Th price includes the rose, cross or whatever they want to the top of the notice, this goes in the Star usually for 1 night and it also goes on the Star website, on iannounce for 1 year. This is all included in the price.
HeadingNorth
Did they indeed? I assume they did, since the OP refers to "having to place a notice." If there were no such legal compulsion, he wouldn't have had to place one; it would more accurately have read, "knowing in advance how much it would cost and agreeing to pay that much" - in which case he would not have any reason to be complaining about the price. Forumosaurus
I don't see why reading it on a screen is any worse than reading it on paper.

JackLakeland
This is a pretty poor show from the Star. Everyone's relentlessly trying to get the last penny out of us these days. Endless junk mail, emails and texts. Phone calls about a virus on the computer or the accident we've had. It just gets worse.
Smokey 1
I think it may well be a good idea for WHITLEY to point out this discussion to his superiors. For you never know, if the Sheffield Star knew they were getting blasted on SF, they may well give a courtesy call back to the OP.
