Fusing widescreen Americana, garage blues and bar room rock 'n' roll, The Lucky Strikes were arguably the hit of the Tramlines with a storming performance to a packed Greystones last year and were the find of the Summertyne Festival. Recently featured on the cover mount CD for Uncut magazine and regulars in R2 (Rock ‘n’ Reel), Southend’s finest alt country garage rockers deliver an amalgam of ‘Exile’ era Stones and The Black Keys at their loudest. This is classic raucous rock ‘n’ roll with a thumping blues heartbeat. Sheffield eagerly awaits their return.

**** R2 magazine

“Something rather special happened last night – a few kids from Southend played a gig that might be the start of a whole career and blew this grizzled old humbug away in the process.” MusicNews.com

“This is tasty stuff...I honestly can’t think of anyone else who is exploring this musical ground right now and as such The Lucky Strikes are pretty unique. Americana UK

Support comes from Canada's college radio sweethearts Ox. Ox plays alternative Folk and Americana music, from Vancouver. The sound is raw, honest and glorious.

Next Thursday, 23rd February, The Greystones welcomes the return of a band who gave one of the highlight performances of last year’s Tramlines Festival. The Lucky Strikes, led by frontman Mat Boulter, put in a dazzling performance that had a packed Backroom audience on their feet. They return to Sheffield next week as part of their first headlining tour.

Howling out of the South Essex marshes in early 2008, country, blues and rock ‘n’ roll combo The Lucky Strikes have gone on to reap success at the forefront of the UK Americana scene with two bold concept albums The Chronicles Of Solomon Quick and the critically-acclaimed Gabriel, Forgive My 22 Sins, both of which have garnered substantial press coverage and airplay. The Lucky Strikes have always moved quickly; less than six months after the band was formed they were in the studio recording their debut, eponymous, album. Close in sound and spirit to cult US punk rock blues labels Alive!, Estrus and Fat Possum, the Lucky Strikes debut was a thrilling burst of raucous and untutored garage rock 'n' roll, setting the scene for the eloquent roots rock that was to come.

With major features in Classic Rock, R2 and Bucketfull of Brains under their belts and festival slots at London Fields, Tramlines, Leigh Folk and Summertyne, 2011 was the year that the band really took off. Gabriel, Forgive My 22 Sins was greeted with universal praise: “a real contender and will floor you with its left jab, body shot, right hook and upper cut combo of guitars, fiddle, keyboards and drums.” (Beat Surrender). With a big sound and rootsy rhythm they are being compared to the like of The Waterboys and Felice Brothers.

2012 is also shaping up nicely. Frontman Mat Boulter is building up quite a track record at The Greystones. He accompanied Simone Felice on lap-steel at one of the best shows of last year, has also worked with The Duke and the King, and will be treating the audience to a few songs from his recent solo debut The Whispering Pines, that received 4 stars from UNCUT.

Accompanying The Lucky Strikes will be Canadian nu-folk singer/songwriter Mark Browning of Ox, who can boast a Number One album in Canada. 'Dust Bowl Revival', the third album from the folk rock outfit Ox became the first independent album in over a decade to make it to the top spot in their native Canada. Mark Browning’s music has been likened to The Byrds, The Flying Burrito Brothers and Neil Young. More than that Ox’s sound is the sound of the open road.

Press for The Lucky Strikes

“Part Black Keys and part 'Exile' era Stones – at their loudest. The just released, self titled debut captures the essence of the band's high octane live shows and features nine songs fusing blues, punk and garage rock”. – 3AM Magazine

“Loud, raw and shockingly abrasive, the Lucky Strikes are very much a band to watch” – R2 Rock ‘n’ Reel

“Gorgeous, in a word.” UNCUT
