Something Nasty… at The Greystones

One of the finest and most exciting bands on the folk festival circuit, Something Nasty In The Woodshed, play their Sheffield headlining debut at The Greystones on Saturday January 28th 2012.

Something Nasty In The Woodshed play traditional music with a difference. With their feet firmly placed in both the rock and folk camps, this Lincolnshire-based band have captivated audiences wherever they have played with a mix of self-penned storybook songs and revamped traditional themes. They take the jigs and reels from the attic of their ancestors and plug them into the national grid. With songs of the military and industry, Jacobean derring-do and seagoing grief, they bring a refreshing blast of tempo and rhythm to the folk traditions of the British Isles.

They are not really like anyone else. Something Nasty In The Woodshed deliver a potent mix of drum-driven electric and acoustic instruments with the emotive sound of the great highland bagpipes. Each show is delivered with style and downright tap-along, sing-along, jump-along exuberance and humour. The result is exciting and addictive and by the end of the set, the audience is often louder than the band.

Three albums into their five-year career, Something Nasty In The Woodshed’s powerful and unique sound has won a growing and loyal following. Their second album, In the Service of a King really turned heads and their third album Quistrium’s Revenge, was released earlier this month, an album the band describe as a ‘step-up’. R2 Rock and Reel magazine picked up on their unique sound with a feature on the band in the November / December 2011 edition, the second time the band have featured in the magazine.

“The band's pulsing electric sound gets one of the main stage's biggest reactions of the day…" Spiral Earth (UK Folk & Roots Ely Festival)

"What a night! They helped make that Sunday night the best night in Moor & Coast history." Chris Roper (Moor & Coast Festival)

"Something Nasty blew the audience away with their high energy folk-rock performance and by popular demand, are invited back next year." Mike Kirrage (Gate to Southwell Festival)
