100 years on from the Titanic disaster it seems we haven't learned much.

Since the Titanic sank way back in 1912, the creation of rules and regs as governed by SOLAS has had a major breakthrough. There is absolutely no resemblance between this incident and Titanic.

What really rattles me is that this is one incident out of many both minor and huge and yet the only reason it's made the news is because some numpty has realised its 100 years since the fatal sinking and that's "good" news.

The men and women who work in the Merchant Navy are often forgotten about and treated like second class used only for cannon fodder yet providing a major lifeline for this Nation. Next time your buying you fresh fruit and vegetables, tv, petrol or in fact virtually anything on the shelfs or around you right now give a thought to those working a minimum of 12 hours a day split into shifts day and night weeks / months at a time regardless of wether it's a weekend, bank holiday or Christmas. Away from home and loved ones.

Best stop moaning, got a 3 week stint out in the North Sea keeping the construction business afloat from the frontline.

Thank goodness for that.

No Captain or Chief Engineer I have ever sailed with woulld do that.

Many of the news stories do claim that passengers say he left before everyone was safe, and the fact he was definitely off the ship whilst rescuers where on it and finding servicers would mean it as some truth in it.

The captain and crew had no real need to leave the ship because they must have known it couldn’t sink because it was on the sea bed. They should have used their knowledge of the ship to look for people below deck.

At least an British girl working as a dancer stayed on board to help people.:)

That's not something that was learned from the Titanic, or has been forgotten in this case.

No one has ever claimed otherwise.

Then I don't know as the Titanic disaster was down to a series of events and this on the outset could be due to a single error the two are not comparible so perhaps there are no lessons to be learned.
