CharLou
Hello, I am interested in learning more about the history of the Harley Hotel, in the city center. Their Twitter page has an old photo of the hotel as their background, and it has piqued my interest - I'm used to it as a bar in its current incarnation, but it obviously has a long history. Any facts or memories would be really interesting to me. I asked some Sheffield stalwarts and they said in the 70s it was reyt posh! xxx
hillsbro
It were certainly posh.. Here's a link to a photo on the picturesheffield.com site, dated 9 March 1932. It can't have been a hotel for very long at that time, as in the 1925 Kelly's Directory (and earlier directories) No 334 Glossop Road was the "Sheffield Queen Victoria District Nurses' Home".. CharLou
Great thankyou! Anyone else have any information? Google really isn't throwing up many (if any) results. x
Jim Hardie
I was once told that it was a bit of a knocking shop at one time.
