In another thread Coop76 asked a really straight-forward question

if they had a straight choice Labour or Tory then who do you think would win?

Conservative -v- Labour

If no other political parties existed, which one would get your local and national vote?

As somebody once said "It's the economy, stupid"

Given that Labour always bring the country to its knees it's a no brainer.

The British are naturally conservative (with a small c) with an element attracted to the something for nothing culture that Labour offer. But,even Labour are leaving behind those who expect something for nothing. They are moving to the right to get votes from people who actually work. That's why hard core loony lefties complain that Labour are not working in their interests.

tax the rich and stop the jobs cuts and we will all have more to spend which will put more money back in the pockets of the rich, sounds good sense to me, but the greedy will disagree.:|

It sounds good sense to many, but for the trifling matter that it's never actually worked.

But surely it will this time?

All you need to do you see is tax the rich (who will just sit there dumbly and do nothing about it) and before long we'll definitely have enough money to pay off our £5 trillion worth of debt.

Hopefully before we hit £10 trillion in 2015.

I did some back of a fag packet calculations and I'm sure it will work.

It's basic human nature you see. No one minds paying 83% of their income as tax (as they did under Denis Healey's reign as Chancellor of the Exchequer). They'll just carry on working just as hard as before, but for nothing. It'll be a bit like forcing people to work for their benefits. All for the Greater Good y'know. Who could possibly object to that?

Certainly they won't become tax exiles or work less hard, deary me no! As every good socialist knows, people love working to fund the government's profligate spending.

If they were allowed to keep their own money they'd only waste it buying things they wanted.

We should save them from themselves.

I think you'll find if the the Conservatives that always run the economy and country into the ground through public cuts services and asset stripping. Labour then have to spend heavily to get the country back on track.

This just gets better and better!

I assume then that seeing as the Conservatives haven't been spending that Labour spend spend spend on the surplus without resorting to massive borrowing? You don't work in the public sector, per chance?
