PeteMorris
I think this is what's known in some circles as a massive FAIL. Hint - try a bit of research next time and avoid looking clueless. ordinarily I would, but some clever so and so usually comes back with a link: [saves me the effort]

The OP has a point. Media "reports" have focused on the consequence (Wiki outage, shock/horror). Not the cause (SOPA itself, and PIPA to a lesser extent). What a surprise. Surprised you missed this, Halibut. Not surprised at the unnecessary ad hominem, however.

XXTickerXX
On a secondary note has anyone ever tried "youhavedownloaded" website. It tracks 55 million IP addresses and what has been downloaded from them.It tells you if it has any records on you. (it only tracks a few percent of private bitorrent users) Quote "YouHaveDownloaded is a great resource that reveals what people behind an IP-address have downloaded on BitTorrent. The founders of the site developed the service so people can show what others have been downloading. Over the past weeks we’ve used the service to expose the most fierce defenders of copyright, and today the focus is on Canada, where the government is preparing to ram through a revamped copyright bill. The Conservative majority government has reintroduced the Canadian Copyright Modernization Act Bill C-11, which according to experts will have disastrous consequences for consumers. But while politicians are taking a stand against piracy, staffers at their very own parliament are downloading torrents left and right. Several IP-addresses assigned to the Canadian House of Commons have been caught pirating copyrighted material." Can`t beat a proxy eh!! People have been caught at Fox studios,NBC universal,Google and even the House of Representatives.Ironically they blame someone else for doing the downloading...something you are not allowed to claim yourselves. splodgeyAl
The proposed Online Protection and Enforcement of Digital Trade Act is the more interesting one anyway. Especially for privacy campaigners - it will mean domain registrations will require an authorised identity check against the registrant
XXTickerXX
This is an example why draconian laws should be opposed at every turn. "Despite not owning a computer or even a router, a retired woman has been ordered by a court to pay compensation to a movie company. The woman had been pursued by a rightsholder who claimed she had illegally shared a violent movie about hooligans on the Internet, but the fact that she didn’t even have an email address proved of little interest to the court. Guilty until proven innocent is the formula in Germany." http://torrentfreak.com/retired-computerless-woman-fined-for-pirating-hooligan-movie-111222/

Tony Erikson
I wouldn't expect to see anything about it in any of Murdoch's papers. He's naturally for it.
Wildcat
The person that draughted SOPA gets caught out violating copyright! http://www.vice.com/read/lamar-smith-sopa-copyright-whoops Oooops what a hypocrite... These censorship attempts have nothing to do with protecting artists and everything to do media corporations wanting bigger profits at the expense of our liberties.
