Conrod
"Every week she receives £326 in tax credits, £60.50 in child benefits, £49.30 in disability living allowance and £55.50 in carers’ allowance."£490 a week, plus Big Issue (sellers are broadly acknowledged to make £100 plus a week, let alone what extra they might gain in tips). So call it £600 a week she gets her grubby sponging immigrant mitts on. £31,200 a year - you'd need to be earning close to £50k before tax to take that home without benefits. HarmOKnee
I might pack my job in and go self employed as a Big Issue seller seeing as it pays more than I get now for working 37 hours a week.
Stranza
so would this also apply to a british person earning £100 a week as a self employed person, and be able to claim similiar benefits ? Yes if their family was the same set up, 3 kids and 1 severely disabled kid the only part that would change is the HB which they would get because they met the income criteria, Romanians have to fall into one of the three specific criteria, this lady meets the self employed part, and have a low enough income to be eligible. I can't see how she can just refuse to tell them her marital status, surely that would be relevant in her claim? I didn't realise the Big Issue was available to anyone in crisis I wonder if exploiting it is as bad as was mentioned in the comments under the story, it does look like a way to legally beg and avoid any repercussions

Because income is determined by the state, much like house prices, pumped up in value with hb amongst other things, in order to benefit landowners. So much so that production is retarded. chem1st
Your record seems to be stuck in the same groove again. You said yourself she 'needs' to earn £50k to be free of the benefit system. She is entitled to housing benefit just as much as anyone else. She is working. But she doesn't earn enough to cover rent.
