Applying to university as a mature student.

1: No, it's only the end of January, the 2012 prospectus probably isn't out yet.

2: They probably do do a credit check, and yes it's only for the fees, any spends should come out of your own pocket.

Sorry Rich that just isn't true. Medical, dental and veterinary students had to apply by last October and all other course applicants by 15th January. It's still possible to submit a late application up until June though.

They don't do a credit check, but you will be means tested for your maintenance loan, which is for living costs. If you have studied a course at degree level before, you probably won't be eligible for either a tuition fee or maintenance loan. All the information you need about financing is here: http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/EducationAndLearning/UniversityAndHigherEducation/StudentFinance/Typesoffinance/index.htm

1. Is it too late to do this for September 2012?

2. Is a credit check performed for student loan and is the loan for fees only or also spending money?

Thanks for your help!

It's never too late. You can apply right up until the course start date (if the course isn't full). As a rule of thumb: earlier is much better!

The loan you can use for anything (although it's supposed to be for fees, etc).
