Conrod
Squirrels are broadly considered vegetarian. You are stating that these Squirrels are 'pests' because they are eating their natural Diet? Birds eggs and Fledglings are 'last resort' food for starving Squirrels, the same as a Human may turn cannibal when starving. Cats eat birds for fun but its inherent in their nature... do you propose that we start shooting Cats for behaving according to their nature? Grey squirrels are also highly territorial and can go through a tree or hedgerow trashing every egg in every nest they find, much the way magpies sometimes do. Seen it several times over the years. Phanerothyme
So all squirrels are not equal? Not all squirrels are equally fit.
Conrod
Not all squirrels are equally fit. They're also not equally resistant to ilness, not equally able to survive on certain foods, not equally able to deal with physical hardships, and most likely not of equal intelligence. Sounds familiar to other sub-species. Dogs, for example.
donkey
So all squirrels are not equal? They haven't made the evolutionary leap which enables them to socially organise against those who seek to control resources and dominate the territory. Therefore, as with all creatures which operate on this lower evolutionary plain, the physically strongest and most cunning types will win out. So, if as a species they had social organisation, would that make them suddenly become equal?
