22.01.12 - Cadbury 1-2 Sheffield Forum

Recommended Posts

Sheffield Forum fought for a close win in terrible conditions in their first game since 18th December. Forum made just one change to the starting 11 as Ashley Matthews missed the game and was replaced by Phillip Gill. On the bench, returning to the Forum team after discussions with the manager, was Liam Wales. He was joined by a return to the team sheet for Joe Neate who was hoping to be over his groin injury and new signing Tom Hunter was the final sub. Adam Smith continued in goal.

The walk to the pitch was a sign of things to come as the player were blown up on to the field at Colley Park. The wind was furious this morning, balls blowing all over as it swept long ways on the pitch.

Forum kicked against the wind first half and managed to get out of their own half early on when a through ball was chased by Kyle Dowling who was eventually brought down in the area. Matthew Corker claimed the penalty kick but his effort was saved and he failed to convert the rebound.

Much of the first half was spent defending for Sheffield Forum as they were boxed in and kick didnt travel far at all. One goal kick went about 25 yards before blowing all the way back in the air for a corner to Cadbury!

Cadbury broke the deadlock, a cross from the right evading everybody and blowing in the far corner of the goal.

Forum managed to hold on for the rest of the half, Adam Smith making a fantastic save to the top right corner of his goal. Dowling missed a chance to equalise before half time.

HT: Cadbury 1-0 Sheffield Forum

Sheffield Forum now had wind behind them and went in search of an equaliser, unfortunately is seemed they were still playing as though the wind was against them as balls were over hit but they did eventually get the ball down and played some football.

Liam Wales came on and provided a little more threat but Forum didnt have much luck down the left hand side. They did equalise though, a perfect ball from Daniel Sheedy sent though Dowling who slotted past the keeper.

Forum kept the pressure on failed to really test the keeper, Tom Hunter came on for his debut in defence as Forum held tight at the back and pushed forward.

Joe Neate then made his long awaited return, only for it to be over 2 minutes later. He went in for a header on the edge of the Cadbury area and bust his nose. Bad news as he has been missed this season, he had to be taken to hospital, thanks to Robbie for that.

Forum continued with 10 men and with minutes remaining went in front, Dowling collected the ball wide left and played a brilliant ball for Sheedy to run on top, his shot hit the keeper and looped into the goal.

It was a rough performance from Forum after no training or games for 4-5 weeks so good to get back out there. Started coming together near the end of the game.
