JFKvsNixon
What I'm criticising is America giving lessons about the nuclear bomb even tough they still have it. Hang on again, here you say it's OK for a country to have the weapon; but just not the Americans? There are two distinct things: -The two bombs used by the USA against Japan were immoral offensive weapons yes. -Having the nuclear weapon is part of a defensive strategy. In other words having the nuclear weapon is ok as long as it's not used. It is a dissuasive weapon.
Cyclone
Every country has the right to defend themselves. A good defense means a powerful army, powerful weapons. Rights don't exist, they're just something we make up.

Cyclone
So you (the west) have the right to worry about potential threats coming from Iran but they don't have the right to worry about potential threats coming from the west? What kind of double standard is this? Where did I say that? USA can start giving lessons about the danger of nuclear weapons the day they get rid of all the nuclear bombs they have. If there is one country that can learn from their mistakes it's the USA because they are the only country that used the nuclear weapon against civilians. And yes, if Iran wants to develop the nuclear weapon it's their right. Like the USA and Israel they would develop it as a dissuasive weapon. By that argument if the west feel threatened by Iran it's their right to do something about it.

Cyclone
I have nothing against Americans. They should just stop giving lessons that they themselves don't follow. Are you expecting them to go back in time and unuse the bomb? Or are you saying that they don't currently follow the non proliferation message that they preach? Cyclone
No. I say it's ok for them to have it. They should just stop telling other countries not to have it. Why? The less countries that have it the safer the world is. It's a good message to spread.
JFKvsNixon
Again, why target civilians? and why use such a powerful weapon that would obviously cause more deaths than needed?and why two bombs? Even during the war there are rules to follow like not targeting civilians. The Allies have been flattening cities for a long while before the use of the atomic bombs, more people died in the attack upon Tokyo than they did in the attack upon Nagasaki. Why do you judge the Nagasaki attack to be a worse event than the attack upon Tokyo?
