Needs to be a small, family car - 5 door, less than 3 years old, low mileage (<20k)

Current shortlist is (as per poll):

VW Polo (would love a Golf but dont think we could get one within budget)

Renault Clio

Ford Fiesta (Zetec?)

If you select 'Other' please let us know what you'd go for!

Thanks!!

Avoid Peugeot like the plague they are riddled with faults and are dangerpously put together, I had a virtually new courtesy car Peougeot 207 and the interior dashboard actually fell of whilst on motorway and I nearly crashed, they're nasty and extremely low down on the reliability index.

Generally go for a Japanese cars, if you're forking out £7,000 then you at least deserve something reliable and safe.

Absolute cobblers we have had 4 and never had any issues bodily or mechanically, we have 406 now and prior to that two 405s and a 305. Two got wrote off in accidents (neither our fault) and the 3rd we sold for more than we paid for it to buy 406 which we've had 4 years

On the other hand, I had a peugeot 406 from new and did 140,000 miles in it. Nothing ever went wrong with it, nothing ever fell off it and it always started first time. Apart from normal wear and tear it was a fantastic car. I've had no experience of other peugeots however, but I wouldn't avoid them like the plague! I personally also recommend Renaults, although as far as French cars go I don't recommend citroens.
