I can imagine that a child could easily cost that much.

 

Childcare fees, going over the top with expensive clothing, expensive holidays and trips, all the latest gadgets etc.

 

My kids only wish they got that much spent on them! There's no need for it.

Their overall costs include meeting all tuition costs for university which is something faced by only half the children today.

That doesn't make sense, tuition fees are paid for with a loan which is repayed by the student. Unless the parents were just very well off and generous!
