retired
As someone has said above, old brickwork with wear and tear plus frost damage becomes porous. It is important that any pointing is in good condition. Sealer such as Thompsons needs to be applied quite liberally and let as much soak in on the first application. Don,t rely on a second application too much as the first should repel it. It works but only for about 5 years then needs doing again. Bear in mind while it is working you will not be able to paint or render on the treated brick as the sealer will repell it.

Lucifer
Any builder types on here who could offer advice.. Has any one ever had leaking brick work. One of my relatives who lives on a gable end which is always hit by wind and rain was told by a builder that her brickwork needs sealing, not re-pointing between the red brick, but actualy the bricks themselves need coating with sealer. Is it genuine - or a bit of a fiddle. Cheers How old is the house, is it of solid brick construction oor does it of cavity wall construction ?.
