Stradbroke Road Tollbar or Barrier

Hi does any one remember what was either a toll bar or barrier on Stradbroke Road in the early sixties:)

Well I lived on Severnside at the Woodhouse end of Stradboke Rd from 1955 until 1970 and there was no toll bar or barrier during that time.

I heard it was to collect tolls from the backwater,Woodhouse who needed a quicker link to Sheffield.Earlier they were forced to travel via Handsworth or Normanton Hill,both even more dreary and dirty than their home area.

No toll bar while I lived on the Stradbroke (51-62). I used to walk regularly to Woodhouse, which gnvgvos's remark notwithstanding, was a tidy, quaint little village with historical roots that go back centuries.

I lived in the prefabs on Stradbroke Road from 1949 to 1958 and there was no Tollbar or Barrier

.......and now the backwoodsmen of Woodhouse in need of a quicker link are slowed down by thirteen sets of speed bumps along Stradbroke road.
