What to do on a weekend in York?

Recommended Posts

You have to go to the Evil Eye Lounge on Stonegate, it's amazing! It's a cocktail bar, but not your usual, poncey, dull cocktail bar. It's got an Asian restaurant, a chilled out vibe, off licence on the front and the best cocktail menu in the world!

Go for the Evil Zombie cocktail, followed by an Acid Frog chaser :)

York is fantastic. We've had 3 nights there for the last 3 years are are going again in June.

Firstly - there is a free walking tour you can do.

This is brilliant and shows you all different parts of the city for no cost - much better value than some walks you pay for.

Secondly - walk a circuit of the wall

3rd - pubs - there are some brilliant pubs in York. The York brewery has three pubs of its own - The Last Drop, The Three legged mare and The Yorkshire Terrier, all great. There are many other teriffic pubs as well. Brigantes is a fave.

4th - shopping

5th - museums and art galleries

6 - the Minster and other churches

7 - restaurants - wonderful, try The Blue Bicycle

8 - Clifford's Tower

9 - Jorvik Centre

10 - River cruise

11 - Falconry centre

12 - loads of ghost walks!

I could go on!!!! :D:D

Nearly forgot - York Brewery tour!

if you are into the history of the place, ask for a weekend pass at any of the touristy places.

You can take a stroll around the medieval walls, and look in all the mini museums they have in all the gates.

You can look around the Minster - they have 2 earlier churches underneath and you can have a look at what is under the minster, then climb to the top of it (cost involved)

You could go to the Roman Baths pub and see the bath house underneath.

You can take a walk around the museum gardens and play in the ruins of St Mary's Abbey and have a look at the old tudor building in the gardens - oh, and the museum.

You can find our about what fate befell the Jews in Cliffords Castle

You can take a walk down a Victorian Street and learn all about Dick Turpin at the Castle Museum

You can take a walk around the 'Quarter'

You can see how many pubs you can get a pint in - I have personally had a drink in 107 pubs/bars/clubs/restaurants within the walls.

You can hire a little red boat and drive yourself up and down the river

You can jump on a tour boat and take a relaxing trip along the river

You can shop until you drop

You can go on any one of about 10 Ghost tours

You can find the walking tour and go on that

You can get on the hop-on-hop-off bus.

You can go to the railway museum, and go on the York Eye.

You can go to the Merchant Adventurers hall

you can go to the Dungeons

You can go to the Yorvik Centre.

To be honest, there really isn't ANYTHING to do in York. Nothing at all. Why bother? :hihi:

Actually - go for a couple of weekends - and the weekdays inbetween. There is HEAPS to do.

And while you're on Stonegate, make sure you find The House of Trembling Madness. You have to go through a shop and up the stairs at the back to get to it. It's one of the oddest pubs I've ever been in, but completely fantastic
