boyfriday Posted February 7, 2012 Share Posted February 7, 2012 Usually not. - Just as is the case for foreign servicemen in the UK, British servicemen overseas are subject to local law (save where the penalties under local law would not be permissible in the UK - like topping!) The foreign courts may have sovereign rights, but to make up for that, the Courts Martial tend to impose heavier penalties (just as Courts Martial for foreign servicemen in the UK tend to be very harsh.) Convicted prisoners may request that they be permitted to serve their sentences in their home country, but it's a favour, not a right. HMG may request that a Briton charged with an offence should be returned to the UK to be tried - and that has happened, too. I have not heard anything about an AMERICAN paedo mel, is that a Sheffield story ? The Wincobank rapist was Eastern European, one who had been convicted of murder in his homeland, why does our system allow people like this in our country never mind this city ?
