saxon51
My lad went out down town last night for the first time ever to celebrate his 18th - which was Thursday - and took his college ID card and Connexions cards with him thinking he could use them to prove his age (they both have his photo and date of birth on them), but nobody would accept them as proof. Anyone know why? Is this the norm?
geckoqueen
Try this http://www.portmangroup.org.uk/campaigns/52.asp or http://www.citizencard.net/ or a driving licence (with photograph) or valid passport, if he's willing to risk losing it
candystick
My daughter has the same problems at our local shops, she took her connections card, student id, bus pass and birth certificate and they still wouldn't serve her with a pack of cigs that i had sent her for. geckoqueen
Candystick I know its frustrating but I used to work in a convenience shop and when you know you could lose your job and face a huge fine it's not worth the risk Try the two links I posted

He doesn't have a drivers' licence or passport. For some reason, the bouncers let him in with the ID he had, but the bar staff refused to recognise it. Seems weird to me that the same establishments don't have consistant rules.
geckoqueen
The law dictates what is acceptable ID and what is not. It is very strict, but I think its something most people welcome as a way of preventing underage drinking and smoking.

It seems mad I undertand that, but, as I remember from my offy days, it's the individual who hands over the booze as well as the shop/venue that gets into trouble
