Hallamshire & District Guild of Weavers, Spinners and Dyers

Recommended Posts

I would like to introduce you to your local Weaving, Spinning and Dyeing Guild, we celebrated our 60th Anniversary last year with an exhibition of our members work at Elsecar and many of you would have seen us at events throughout the year.

Visitors are always welcome to our meetings which start at 10.30 and finish at 3.30. We often have visiting speakers and there are always members on hand who have a wealth of knowledge to help, advice and encourage.

We meet on the Saturday in every month at the Jordanthorpe and Batemoor Community Centre, Dyche Lane, Sheffield S8 8BR.

Good Afternoon

Just to let everyone know our next meeting is taking place on the 8th September.

Jim and Diane Gaffney are coming to talk to us on the subject of;

“THE FUTURE OF HANDMADE TEXTILES”

Making beautiful hand made textiles is extremely labour intensive, so do we take them for granted? And how long can these traditions continue? What are the prospects for the makers, and the traditional way of life represented by such wonderful textiles?

Jim and Diane will look at the past and possible future solutions in this thought provoking talk illustrated with some of their very best textiles from around the world.

Visit Jim and Diane’s fascinating website: http://www.textiletechniques.co.uk
