Bubble3082
When we were at school in Treeton we were taught about the origin of Hail Mary Wood. Apparently it got its name because there was a tunnel from the top of the hill that led underground to Treeton church, and that Mary Queen of Scots used it to escape capture. I just wondered whether anyone else had heard this and could shed some light on it please? The major 'plot-hole' is that Mary was Catholic (if memory serves) and the church is Protestant. Does anyone know? Thanks in advance
celt
I was always told Queen Mary was captured in the hollow of the hill, when seen they called hail Mary for her to surrender. The woods were then called the Hail Mary Woods. Celt
