Science vs Religion

Recommended Posts

There were two possibilities, something exists or something doesn’t exist. We know the universe exists and we don't know if nothing is possible. The only conclusion is that the universe as always existed, until it is proven that nothing is possible there is no point in assuming it is, because that would require a leap of faith.

No, the only conclusion is that the universe exists.

My emotions are the result of chemical reactions in my brain. No need for a metaphysical plane at all. Everything else in your post is gibberish.

I agree, which is why I don't believe in this metaphysical plane. But it does have a definition and if you follow the definition then our emotions exist in it and if God exists then god also exists in it. But I agree it is clearly gibberish which was made up by someone with a belief in God.

A kleptomaniac is someone who can't stop nicking things. As a man of god you should know of a commandment about stealing. The coppers will be round shortly.

Oops" thought it was a maniac collector, no I'm no tea leaf :o

I also agree with this, but if one had to make a guess as to why the universe exists it would be better to base that guess on what we know, we don’t know God exists, we don’t know that nothing is possible, we know the universe is possible because it exists, so the best guess is that it has always existed.

I think you and Tom have probably got close to hitting the nail on the head, if I have read your posts correctly I think you both believe in and have some emotional connection to God .

So why did you answer post 91 with this reply then?

There's a great TED talk on this issue - Aetheism 2.0 by Alain de Botton ... "Dismissing religion is as easy as shooting fish in a barrel ...

That was well worth watching, and should be required viewing for this and many other threads.

Now everyone just needs 20 minutes from John Gray on so-called humanism and I'm sure an age of syncretism will dawn on the forum.

I didn't see anything in FairDoo'z post that would suggest he had made a decisive claim to a belief in God.I think you were reading the post wrongly.(post 91)

I agree, which is why there is nothing in my post which claims he has made a decisive claim to a belief in God.:)

There is nothing in that which claims he has made a decisive claim to a belief in God.

I just thought there was some suggestion in those first lines of your post to indicate the point i made.Which is why i responded, and now is the reason why i have responded again with these quotes...only to correctly draw attension to what i was referring to ..and why i was puzzled.

I apologise if i misunderstood your post.

Why don't you just say in clear words what you are on about then maybe you would get a proper answer you just don't make any scene, I'm from Sheffield what has Leeds got to do with it,

I don't understand why you are getting your knickers in a twist about a post that was neither addressed to nor aimed at you and which doesn't refer to or challenge anything you have said.

My last post was obviously not meant to be taken seriously, but that didn't stop you.
