Chris_Sleeps
As I say, I even respected him in his later years. You've not really answered my question. What is it that you respect?
donkey
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-northern-ireland-16911310 It seems the great man is about to meet his maker. I don't think so. St Peter is probably on the blower to Satan right now telling him to prepare a special place for a VIP.
Balpin
You've not really answered my question. What is it that you respect? He always stuck to his guns. He never denied his beliefs. He was not a hypocrite. They are things, although they are wrong, are to be admired in a man.

Chris_Sleeps
He always stuck to his guns. He never denied his beliefs. No, but he used them to promote hatred against another set of people who didn't hold his beliefs, and was dogmatic to the point where he forced his beliefs upon other people. Ignoring the politics of Ireland, which is complex anyway, just his theology alone is awful. He believes in the literal interpretation of the bible. His views on Yugoslavia where fuelled by anti-catholicism and blinded him to what was happening. They are things, although they are wrong, are to be admired in a man. You admire something you find "wrong"?
