fozzybear210
Bought a car today which needs to be taxed. Since I only insured it today and the paperwork will take a few days to come through, can I tax it at a post office with just the insurance policy number or will I need a printout of the documents? Thanks.
Hopman
You might find the answer at the direct.gov.uk website or phone the local DVLA office.

mart
My understanding is that you will need the cover note from the insurers, a valid MOT cert, the fee, and the appropriate part from the (V5) Reg document. Note, vehicles cannot be taxed at every post office-only certain ones.
alchresearch
Why on earth can't insurers get themselves into the 21st century like Swiftcover and provide electronic documents instantly? I don't think you can tax a car with a cover note any more.
donut 747
can you do it on line?
alchresearch
It depends if the insurers have updated the database that the DVLA uses when processing the VED.
fozzybear210
Thanks for the help peeps. Got it sorted. Couldn't do it online as the v5 isn't in my name yet. Got the cover note by email, so tax now sorted. Cheers.
