Are the postmen on strike today.

Recommended Posts

What is this new idea that seems to be happening with the post? We used to have one post woman who delivered, on her own, to the whole estate. We now have the same round being serviced by two post man plus a post van. Plus the post is now delivered later.

Now I may not be the best with facts and figures but it does strike me that it may just be a little bit more costly to employ two post men plus a post van (and driver) to do the same job as previously done by the one post woman. Just to be clear, the post van seems to shadow the deliver post men on their round. Perhaps they are afraid they will get lost?

It does rather seem a strange way of operating. The previous post woman was very friendly and helpful. These new post men appear to have had a personality by-pass, talk about unfriendly and unhelpful.

This is happening all across the country. The two posties are actually delivering two postrounds, but the idea is that they take everything (large parcels, tracked, specials). In theory it sounds like a good idea. So when it comes to Christmas time for example, all packages will get delivered immediately (like they should do anyway), and not left to build up when the posties can't fit them in their bags.

However, buying 20ish new vans for each office is obviously very expensive. So no doubt the price of stamps will go up. AGAIN.

Hope you all got some cards today! :hihi:

you are quite right, it's called 'park and loop'. however the amount of work given to the 2 posties, plus all the packets, tracked and specials far exceeds the 2 individual rounds the posties would have been on before. just the fact that they have the specials and all the large parcels, which would have been done previously by a separate driver and van means the rounds are massive, take a lot longer and have effectively done away with a persons job! these new routes are not workable in their time and mail either doesn't get taken out or is taken back undelivered because the posties have ran out of time. royal mail is very reluctant to pay overtime these days so the posties won't go over. this is happening countrywide and will be coming to your local sorting office soon!
