HeadingNorth
The RPI + x% beer duty inflator hasn't helped... If the amount of alcohol consumption is going down, then most people would say that it has helped.
Gordonb
The RPI + x% beer duty inflator hasn't helped... And higher housing cost means you have less to spend on everything else. Chem1st, reading back through your posts you really do have a fixation on housing, in all seriousness have you thought it might be time to seek help. OCD is a well documented genuine illness which a lot of people suffer from in various degrees (including myself). Has it not occured to you that the biggest single factor that influences how much we have to spend is not housing costs but fuel prices. Everything we buy or do has a fuel cost built into it, from transport of materials and people through to manufacturing processes or even just staying at home and trying to keep warm. Even staying updated in some manner about what is going on out in the rest of the world, city, neighbourhood etc. has a fuel cost to it.
Agent Orange
Only the OP can make a thread about abstaining from alcohol into a rant about housing. Is there no end to this man's talents?
Winder
Is there no end to this man's talents? Who knows? It would be exceptionally difficult to detect bearing in mind there doesn’t appear to be a discernible start to them.

buck
Back in the day, when the chancellor of the exchequer showed off his little brown bag, the tax increases were all on beer and cigs. Only later when you were all driving around in limosines, it also included petrol. Now nobody smokes, people don't drink as much, and a lot of people don't have a job, where's the money come from? Cyclone
The RPI + x% beer duty inflator hasn't helped... And higher housing cost means you have less to spend on everything else. How many people are actually affected by higher housing costs though? Nobody that hasn't bought a house in the last 5, max 10, years. Which will include nearly all 16 - 24 year olds. You can't say students are drinking less due to housing costs when non of them have bought houses, rental hasn't gone up anything like buying has it! GodStar
Maybe students are drinking less because its their own money they are spending now?
Bladesman
Costs a bit more to do but they are most certainly drinking to excess. They may of cut back perhaps because of the cost but they just try to get drink quicker with stronger stuff before they go out.
Cyclone
Perhaps it's because the younger generation have realised drinking is basically a mugs game? i.e. you spend a lot of money, cultivating a drug habit which is scientifically proven to (unless used with a far greater degree of moderation than most manage) be extremely damaging to health, as well as carrying the risk of alcoholism for many. Errr, what? Simultaneously, most of the current generation are fully aware that the goverment have been lying for decades by exagarating the harmful effects of several serious competitors to alcohol, especially cannabis (proven to be the least harmful recreational drug) and, things like MDMA etc. Many have also realised that it's perfectly feasable to get through live without abusing any substances, or even by abstaining totally. And most people do get through life with abusing any. The question isn't why they're drinking less- it's why previous generations had such a fixation on alcohol in the first place. No, that's a different question.
