19.02.12 - Jack In A Box 1-6 Sheffield Forum

Recommended Posts

Sheffield Forum cruised to a win on a very poor Stradbroke pitch this morning. Forum made a couple of changes and for one of the first times had 5 subs present and had to leave 5 players out althogether. Liam Wales made his first start since his return to Forum on the left hand side of midfield, Ashley Matthews moved to centre back and Ryan Lynch returned at left back. Joe Neate made return too in centre midfield and replaced Andy Coates. Coates, Tom Hunter, Philip Gill and Ashley Proctor were joined on the bench by new signing Daniel Callow.

Sheffield Forum visited Stradbroke Rec to play Jack in a Box looking for a win after the 5-4 home win back in December. It was the first game since the end of January and for the first time, we had the pick of the whole squad with no injuries or suspensions.

From kick off, Forum worked hard on the boggy uneven pitch and Kyle Dowling had an earlier chance only for his shot to be saved by the keeper. Shortly afterwards, Daniel Sheedy had a similar effort also thwarted by Jacks goalkeeper. Forum did take the lead within the first 10 minutes though, Sheedy was free in the middle of the area and his first shot on goal was saved. He was quickest to react to the loose ball, took a touch and slotted low past the keeper to give Sheffield Forum the lead.

A second soon followed, Forum tried to keep the play away from the middle of the pitch due to the area being boggy and found a break through. Attacking down the right hand side, Dowling was sent through on goal and he slotted in the far corner for 0-2.

Dowling added a third for Forum as he received the ball on the edge of the area on the right and hit a cross he claimed to be a shot towards the back post which headed straight over the keeper into the back of the net. Forum now 3 up.

Jack rarely threatened, their left winger perhaps the liveliest of their players with his pace but caused no real thread infront of goal as the back 4 had a solid game. Balls over the top were easily dealt with and Ryan Lynch had a great game at right back.

By 35 minutes Forum were 5-0 up and cruising. Firstly Daniel Sheedy completed his brace and that was soon followed by Dowling completing his hat-trick, calmly rounding the goalkeeper.

Just before half time came Forum only real defensive lapse as a Jack forward broke free and got to a long ball just ahead of Nathan Jenkins to cooly put the ball over Forum keeper Adam Smith. Forum had squandered other chances but were still trying to play football despite the pitch now becoming even worse. The bounce of the ball was almost non present in the middle of the pitch and each goal mouth but wingers Liam Wales and Shane Middlebrook were having great games.

Half time: Jack In A Box 1-5 Sheffield Forum

At half time, Forum players were full of confidence as the same 11 took to the pitch again. Wales gained in confidence throughout the game and linked well with Dowling down the left hand side. Joe Neate was taken off around 50 minutes to be replaced by Andy Coates, Neates return this time proving much more successful than the Cadbury game.

Forum kept attacking but no real chances were created as they played it safe and defended well leaving Jack playing unsuccessful long balls and odd long range effort.

Phillip Gill then replaced Tom Gray and very nearly made an immediate but dragged his close range shot wide. Wales also had a penalty appeal turned away after he comes inside from the left, went through 2 defenders only to be brought down by both just inside the area. 20 minutes to go saw the introduction of Daniel Callow in the place of Dowling and just over 10 minutes later saw his first goal for the club. Callow found himself in the right place at the right time to slot to the right of the keeper for a debut goal.
