Fuel prices MEGATHREAD

Recommended Posts

Damn! I agree with this. Damn! Damn! Damn!

That's it - booked myself in for another labotomy.

Isn't most of the cost of fuel government taxation (esp green tax)?

To quote myself from a few posts back:

If the price of a barrel of crude has stayed the same despite a diminishing supply and an increase in demand, then the market really has been manipulated. It's getting more expensive. The underlying economics mean that it will continue to get more expensive. There is no getting away from that.

Yeah you can keep quoting yourself but that does not answer the question. How much in fuel goes on Tax. If this is a larger amount and it is tax that is increasing then how can you say the increased cost is because of an increase in crude?

There is bound to be some increase in the cost per barrel, but not enough to warrant the prices motorists are paying at the pumps.

The majority of the price of fuel is tax, apparently britain supposedly has the cheapest fuel in europe but the amount of tax on it makes it one of the most expensive, there are many on-line protest organisations but nothing ever comes of them remember a couple of years ago when lorry drivers who were going to blockade grangemouth oil refinery were going to be charged with anti terrorism laws and have their operators licenses taken away if they went ahead with their protests. we should be more like the french and actually stick together and do something

The tax is about 64% of the pump price (AA figure for March). Pump prices depend on the price at the refinery gate not the cost of crude.

If you believe fuel retailers who say that they make between 1p and 7p profit per litre of fuel it makes you wonder why they bother, when you think if someone drove off without paying and got away with it how much fuel would they have to sell to recoup what they had just lost, also the majority of small fuel retailers have to pay for the fuel up front

The French protests don't appear to be doing much good as they are currently paying higher prices for petrol than we are. As are Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Greece, Netherlands, Italy, Norway, Portugal and Sweden.

Who says that supply has fallen or demand increased?

Oil isn't getting more expensive.
