Owls vs Blades matchthread.

Just got back from the game, after listening to uniteds fans explaining how many they were gonna beat us by with there silky football and our poor recent form I didnt go with high expectations.

The atmosphere in the ground was fantastic, great to see a full house again, united started the game off brightly and things were not looking good, the first half was scappy with little in the way of decent football from either side, united quickly faded after the opening ten minutes.

The second half showed a much more dominant Owls display, united never looked a threat until the desparate last few minutes, the goal was well worked from Antonio and Buxton and taken smartly by O'Grady.

Its laughable how after the game the united fans are still clinging onto this mythical hoofball thing (the one they played for years before they had a Wednesday man at the helm), also going on about the league position!!! This was a DERBY the game every fan looks to and wants to win from the day the fixtures are announced.

Oh well blades, if it makes defeat easier to accept. UTO

Not a bad review but how silly you sound at the end. YES we wanted to win and YES we are gutted we didnt BUT we would still rather be in our league position than yours and most wednesday fans with half a brain cell would agree!!! A derby is a fantastic day and whoever loses is gutted BUT at the end of the season its not the emotions of a derby which counts, its the league table!!! At the moment united hold better position! Whether that will change is yet to be seen but you are stupid if you are losing sight of the bigger picture.

As for hoofball, yes we did used to play alot of it, now we dont. Thankfully.

Not sounding silly at the end at all mate, just stating what your fans were saying on Radio Shefield this afternoon, utter rubbish.

The league position is irrelevant on derby day, when you did the double over us in the 91/92 season we had far the better side and outlook, yet I didnt see united fans at the final whistle taking time out to have a quiet reflection on the "bigger picture".

Sour, sour grapes united, you thought you had this one in the bag and were wrong.

Not much to chose between the 2 teams in first half. Best chance was the free kick from the Blades, we didnt trouble the keeper

Must have been an inspired team talk from Megson at half time was we were by far the stronger side in the 2nd half. United just didnt turn up and we out fought them and played the better football

Out sung, out thought, out battled. Its been a long time since we've been able to say that in a derby game

Outsung? You'll have to get Radio Sheffield to move the microphones then, evidence via radio (rather than when you're in the middle of your own set of fans) suggested otherwise... until you scored of course!

Poor goal to concede defensively (just been on tv), Quinn let his man go past him without chasing back hard enough, and then the scorer's left unmarked in the box. Finished it well, but easily preventable.

At least now the circus is over again until at least May, we can get back to proper football matches without all the rubbish that goes on alongside it.

....anyway, back to the game.

The Owls needed the win today or their season could have gone into freefall, they are right back in the mix now for the 2nd automatic spot, its ok for united to have games in hand but will they bottle them as they did today, single games can change fortunes and today could be one of those games.

MK Dons are also in good form and Huddersfield will be basking in new manager syndrome for a short period, still a way to go and fight ahead for all four teams.

There's no way of knowing yet if they 'will bottle them' - you're making assumptions based on one poor performance. As for bottling games, your own lot have been quite good at doing that lately!

So the 3 fouls on us inside the box on the ball were not penalties and were clean play? Spoke to 3 owls so far and both agreed. They will at least be mature enough to admit when the ref made a mistake. Shame some football fans cant see beyond there tinted glasses. Ive happily admitted when a ref has made decisions which weve been bloody luckily over. Its football.

Three owls and both agreed? I think you're making it up kal-el.
