Miliband is raking in the cash.

Recommended Posts

I have no specific love for politicians from any party, but it makes me laugh that people will slag anyone who is making money down, no matter what they do, I personally think its jealousy.

It seems he is a bit like Tony Blair.

Why pay taxes on your proper job when you can put it through shadow companies and avoid tax like all good socialists?

David Miliband is channelling his earnings of up to £21,000 a day through a controversial tax loophole his own Government vowed to close.

The former Foreign Secretary uses an ‘income-shifting’ device that was condemned by Gordon Brown’s administration.

That's as maybe but when does he find time to work as an MP for his constituents? Isn't that what he is supposedly paid to do. You can't do a lecture in Dubai in you lunch hour.

The work seems to allow a degree of freedom to pursue other interests the same as the work I do does, the only difference is the amount earned.

Oh that 'ol coconut.

Seems unlikely in every instance however.

Well I suppose it depends who you feel is entitled to avoid paying tax. If you feel it is OK for Blair to set up shadow companies to avoid paying tax, and feel it is OK for Miliband to avoid paying tax by using loopholes he sought to close whilst he was a minister, then that's fine.

It sends out a message to everyone else that tax avoidance is something to embrace. It would be difficult for the tax man to pursue someone over a tax issue if that person can point to a cabinet minister who was doing exactly the same.

It appears that David Miliband won't be in a hurry to rejoin the shadow cabinet. He is far to busy being a good capitalist and raking in the dosh.

One of the appointments he has taken up since losing out in Labour's leadership contest was at Vantage Point clean energy investments who are is paying him the mighty sum of £23,210 a quarter or a £92,840 p/a for consultacy work. This is on top of his MPs salary and the fortune he makes giving lectures and public speaking.

Your point is?

What do you mean?

I mean, what is this income shifting loop hole (that allows one to avoid paying as much tax), maybe I can make use of it (to avoid paying as much tax).

I thought the question was pretty clear in the first place to be honest!

If it's tax avoidance it's impossible for them to pursue it anyway, the whole point of tax avoidance is that it's legal. Tax evasion is of course illegal.
