I suppose you could join the TA (as suggested) and get paid for doing that whilst still being a civilian first and foremost. You might be able to swing it if it's "safer" but I'm not sure you'll convince the mrs if you want to take ieds apart for a living. And you will probably have to move or not see your family for ages. I think if someone marries a soldier that's on thing but it's a different thing altogether if you have a wife and kids and then decide to sign up.
