I suppose that is the free market social safety net in this corporatist country.

The majority of the 900 000 supermarket workers are one benefits, the state has to top up their wages, via tax credit and housing benefit.

Tesco might aswell employ people forced to steal food and at least get some work out of them.

But I suppose it can employ these people via workfare and the state will pay them BELOW minimum wage - wages, and pay tesco a bonus...

Why do you always come out defending the idiots?

Like them or hate them, Tesco are a good employer. They pay well and have benefits such as staff discount.

If someone doing a basic manual job then they will have to live in a basic house, not the 4 bed mansion they want. If they want the mansion they will have to work hard, show promise and train to higher levels to get a higher wage.

thing is you cant compare buying houses???

the point is, both work here and both live here and both earn here, its immaterial what they do after

The British born worker is likely to spend a large part of his or her wages supporting the British economy.

The foreign born worker is likely to send a sizeable proportion of his or her wages overseas, to support the economy of his or her country of origin.

What people do with their salary AFTER they have been paid is extremely important.

Only global capitalists believe otherwise.

That's down to individual choice. I can retire to Bulgaria and live just as well as any Bulgarian worker does.
