I know several people who've bought loads of kit and then tried to find work, only to get turned down everywhere because they didn't know what to do, ended up learning at home and then ended up in a pub/bar which has all the kit so all the stuff they bought ends up filling their garage never having earnt a penny. The most difficult thing to teach upcoming DJs is that the hardest thing to learn isn't mixing - it's song selection and "reading" the crowd.
