Karis
I am not being funny I mean it. If we cannot look at something like that and be astounded we are not human in my opoinion. Why? It's gorgeous and beautiful and cool. But, really, astounded?
Badlittlepup
Thanks for that! My husband was out putting the washing out earlier and he saw the two bright 'stars' and took a picture, I noticed it earlier too. We had no idea what it was though, nice to be enlightened. quisquose
If you look out at the right time (6:33pm tomorrow) you'll be able to witness the planetary alignment with the ISS travelling across.

Yes I do find it an astonishing sight. If you dont there must be something wrong with you. What did you feel when you saw Hale Bopp? Disappointing as it was, it was a visitor from the far reaches. Planetary conjunctions are like clockwork; we know centuries in advance when one is due. They're impressive and beautiful, certainly, but I really don't see what's astonishing about them. Things moving in circles at different speeds, will keep catching up with each other over time.
rubydazzler
A friend posted a pic on my fb the other night, the crescent moon, Venus and Jupiter in a straight line with the trail of the ISS passing between the two planets. Amazing.

But if you happen to see on on the motorway on your way home, or on your garden path on the way in, then they are astounding. We are not all people who peep though telescopes on a night. Karis
We are not all people who peep though telescopes on a night. Equally, we're not all callow folk who are dumbfounded by the obvious! Fortunately, most of us aren't so eager to tell others that there's something wrong with them when they don't agree with us.

I'm always dumbfounded on a clear night when you can see forever. Astounding and scary in equal measure. It makes me feel a little giddy.
