medusa
I think your options are train via Middlesbrough or bus via Middlesbrough or the Coastliner bus.

Mecky
If your planning on staying there the only way is by train or coach. Don't use the coast liner because it takes 5 hours to get to Scarborough. If you're going for the day there are plenty of coach trips available. Longcol
Some interesting suggestions on this thread - including one by an SF poster. http://www.whitbyonline.co.uk/forums/viewtopic.php?t=
melthebell
I think your options are train via Middlesbrough or bus via Middlesbrough or the Coastliner bus. i catch the train from sheffield to boro (normally its £50 ish return) theres normally a change at darlington, if your lucky theres no change. then catch a bus from boro to whitby, either my bus X5 or the one that goes over the moors missing out the small villages along the coast...93?? silverknight
Your best option in my view is either: 1) train to York then change to Scarborough train (both hourly) a no restriction rail ticket for an Adult Anytime Return to Scarborough is £42.50 If you are happy to have some restriction and book in advance then it can be done for around £30 = Advance Single Sheffield to York from £7 - Advance single York to Scarborough from £6.50 then the same in reserve. A half hourly bus service the Arriva 93 from outside Scarborough station goes to Whitby which takes about an hour. 2) Coastliner bus 840/x40 ( Leeds - York - Whitby )do 3 journeys M-S and 2 on Sunday with a journey time around 3 hours 15m
