Smoking ban has led to less smoking in the home, not more!!

Recommended Posts

My point was that he habit will disappear to a point where it becomes only visible the fringes of society, similar to drug addicts today.

It is only on the fringes of society now. People aren't allowed to smoke on planes, trains, buses, in factories, pubs, restaurants, cinemas, shops, offices, public buildings, railway stations, bus shelters, some parks and beaches, company cars and vans etc etc.

On top of that it is clear that the vast majority of people have banned in in their homes and the government is looking at ever more restrictions to impose such as in cars with children.

There will come a time when smoking has become so unacceptable to society that governments will feel confident enough to make importing tobacco illegal.

There will come a time when smuggled tobacco will be cut with cabbage leaves, but that won't stop some sitting in the woods in the rain smoking the stuff and wondering why it smells of broccoli.:hihi::hihi:

Ah I see, you might be right with regards to addicts. However drug use today is more prevalent than ever isn't it? Cannabis has been tried by about 50% of the population IIRC.

If governments attempt to go down the route of prohibition then they will cost themselves and society far more than they save it. I really hope that they aren't that stupid.

Ban behaviour that might harm other people, and other than that let people live life as they wish, set the tax level at one appropriate to cover the costs on average and stop trying to control everyone.

You really should research your subject better.

It turns out that prohibition has found an effective way to make marijuana truly toxic. As seen in Germany where marijuana has been tainted with lead in order to increase its weight and increase profits an estimated $682 per pound:

One bag bought from a dealer even contained lead particles big enough to see, which meant the lead must have been added deliberately, rather than being absorbed into the plant from contaminated soil. … The authorities do not know where the tainted marijuana came from or why the lead was added, but the German police suspect that it was done to make money. The samples tested contained 10 percent lead by weight, which translates into an increased profit of about $682 per pound of marijuana.

Time to change dealer. Or grow your own.

Yes I can imagine some sad little man growing his tobacco plants hidden amongst his rhubarb so that he can have a crafty roll up in his potting shed. It just doesn't sound terribly attractive or likely to get you invited to many parties.
