Scotland Yard loaned former News International chief executive Rebekah Brooks a police horse for her Oxfordshire farm.

The Evening Standard today revealed how Brooks was allowed to keep the retired horse for over a year, before it was eventually re-housed with a police officer in 2010.

The loan was made in 2008 while Lord Blair was Commissioner for the Metropolitan Police Service. Lord Blair said he was not aware of the gift.

Yeah, it's a non story, as you say.

The Met's investigation into News International at the time makes this a story. It's about the Met having a cosy relationship with someone who was a criminal suspect. The Met were taking backhanders from NI and turning a blind eye to a lot of crime NI were committing. To lend someone a horse in the middle of all that exposes the corruption of the Met and NI.

Or, it exposes the fact that whichever administration person decides to whom retired police horses should be loaned, does not also have the job of conducting criminal investigations into phone hacking.

Or, it allows those people who think that police corruption is a good thing to come out with any old rubbish about why police corruption isn't really police corruption. The people who lent this horse knew exactly who they were lending it to and why. It was a bribe to keep the backhanders coming.

They are not giving away racehorses, they are farming out old hacks (no pun intended).

My post that you replied to above uses the words lent and lending but not giving away. You people who are queuing up to excuse police corruption are not doing yourselves any favours.
