Tony
Len McCluskey is calling for civil disobedience during the Olympics. by encouraging the public to engage in "all forms of civil disobedience Should he be locked up for incitement? Or should we all be able to enjoy once in a lifetime UK Olympics without a well paid union official dictating to us?
Chris_Sleeps
Neither, while we still have freedom of speech.
tinfoilhat
He's free to suggest it (legally I think) but equally free to be a very easy target for people who think union leaders have to much power and money. It's so daft and unpopular (is he refunding members tickets ?) that I almost think the whole idea is a Tory plan.
HeadingNorth
Neither, while we still have freedom of speech. We have never had the freedom to call for rebellion against the elected government. That has always been a crime. Whether his comments count as "inciting rebellion" could keep lawyers wealthy for years.
Chris_Sleeps
We have never had the freedom to call for rebellion against the elected government. That has always been a crime. Of course we have. He's done it today, openly, in a newspaper.
Tony
That's the point of the thread. If he really means what he's suggesting, should he be locked up for sedition? Should he be locked up even if he doesn't mean it?
HeadingNorth
Of course we have. He's done it today, openly, in a newspaper. I can call openly for the man who posts on this forum as Chris_Sleeps to be brutally murdered; it would be a crime. Len McCluskey can call openly for people to rebel against the elected government; it would be a crime.
chem1st
Civil disobedience can be good. Smoke a spliff and watch the swimming! Get so stoned that you start questioning whether or not cardiovascular workout is good for you. Turn off your TV's and go for a swim instead. andygardener
Seems a tad harsh to have him locked up, though it probably would be sensible to force Milliband as the leader of his political wing to . Oh wait, that's not going to be possible for banana boy.
Chris_Sleeps
He shouldn't be locked up for calling for a strike. He's free to put the idea forward - that's his job.
