Bonzo77
Robert Downey had a very close call. One of the few who became rehabilitated. Lindsey Lohan seems to be on the mend too. Lennon had no credibility with me. He was a phony. For someone who wrote "Imagine" he sure liked the material things in life, his swank NY apartment and especially his millions. Even today there are young groupies who hang around in Central Park opposite the place he lived in. These kids werent even born when Lennon died and some of them look as high as kites Many, many people in show biz are either drunks, dope heads or both. I knew Harley riders who thought they were the real life versions of Fonda and Nicholson in Easy Rider. Young punks on Hogs getting high and thinking it was "like real cool man" The movie became a cult classic. Dont tell me that naive people are not influenced by their music or screen idols. Sorry to upset your delicate sensitivities and i dont appreciate being called a moron either so untwist your panties and keep a civil tongue in your head if you want me to respond to any future posts. We are forgetting the whole point of this thread. But, you can't deny the fact that a lot of people lead extremely successful lives and have very lucrative careers despite taking drugs every now and then. Whether you are a fan of the Beatles or not, you can't deny that their music changed the way people perceived pop music. They changed the face of popular culture and there influence can be heard in just about every modern band today. Drugs are like anything in life. You can have too much of a good thing. You just have to be careful. Taking a persons choice away from them is not the way to solve a problem. People need educating. Drugs have grown on our planet for millions od years and people have used them for hundreds and thousands of years. They will never go away. ferno
I dont give a toss about creative people and their drugs. Nor about the young people you are happy to condemn to a life of misery by supporting prohibition.
ferno
I dont give a toss about creative people and their drugs. It's the way they influence young gullible people. Anyway most of the stuff they tuen out now with one or two notable exceptions occasionally is liquid crap unless you think moronic story plots and lots of computer generated special efffects is in some way creative. You mean Shakespeare? You keep coming out with this ignorant sweeping generalisations, you don't seem to know much about the subject at all. Harleyman
You mean Shakespeare? You keep coming out with this ignorant sweeping generalisations, you don't seem to know much about the subject at all. You fail to see that genuine and meaningful creativity has disappeared. How much tripe does Hollywood churn out these days? Loads of it. Apart from the contributions of Spielberg and two or three others there is no "creative art" . Movies are mass produced like widgets on a factory assembly line each made to earn a fast buck by cynical CEOs and movie directors who see is as 90 percent business and 10 percent meaningful entertainment value. The musical world has also suffered a marked decline in quality and substance. The young these days ride around in cars with boom boxes blaring out "Rap" full of profanity, often hate and disrespect to women. If you cant detect the first indications of a civiliasation in decline I can and the spread of drug use has only speeded it up. I could go on ranting about sihngle moms, AIDs, people who think welfare and unemployment benefits are a given birthright.... but what the hell. I'm just an old fart whose era has largely disappeared but one thing is right as that genuinly gifted musician Dylan (oh yes he may have smoked a joint too) once sang "The times they are a changing"...... too true but not for the better. Rant over !
