For entirely egotistical reasons, humanity is listed as a separate genus from all the other primates. The official line is that both humans, and apes, shared a common ancestor in the distant past. (Well, so did humans and tomato plants if you really want to talk about the very distant past...) So officially you are wrong, but you shouldn't be.
