munster45
Anyone know a website that may have photos of the original individual shops that make up what is now Ponsfords? Thanks
hillsbro
The picturesheffield.com site has this one showing the junction of Oak Street and London Road (click on the photo to enlarge) and an aerial view. Also this 1960s photo showing Ponsfords as it was then. Many more photos can be seen in the Local Studies Library (Surrey Street).
muddycoffee
I like that 1960s photo. It shows where the Heeley station building used to be at the entrance.

DUFFEMS
I recall my grandfather, born 1900, telling me that old man Ponsford used to be a second hand dealer touting his business with a handcart then progressing to a small shop at the bottom of Well Road. muddycoffee
I think I can remember the building, didn't it become a scrap dealer? No the car breakers is still there. I have it on good authority that it was never the station building, but a lost luggage office or luggage office. The main buildings and platforms were in the main block of heeley station. If you look at aerial photos of the time, you can see that the present car breaker's building is seperate from the main station, only connected by a ramp to the manchester lines, where they used to transfer luggage. Whereas all the stopping trains with the passengers in the daytime, normally stopped at the patforms at the London road part of the station (back then it was stilll called london road south)
