Car Wash/Valeting Thread- No Advertising

Yes - up to a point, :) but what should we be using to wash the car and cause the least damage to the paintwork ?

Alwyas willing to accept advice from experts.

Washing!!

ALWAYS use TWO buckets when washing a car. Think about it...if you use ONE bucket of water with your soap in all you are doing is taking the dirt from the car back into your clean water THEN taking it back to the car!! This is one of the major causes of swirl marks

Use TWO buckets, one with your soap in and one with CLEAN water. Go from soap to car to clean water to soap to car........if you can afford PROPER buckets and not the 99p ones from B&Q then you should buy one's with 'grit guards'...these draw all the grit to the BOTTOM of the buckets avoiding pickup in the bucket.

Always use a lambswool wash mitt or equivalent NOT a Sponge!! A sponge is too hard a surface and any grit no matter how small between the sponge and paintwork WILL cause marring or swirl marks.

Wash mitts have a deep pile so if you do happen to pick up the tiniest bit of grit it can sink into the pile and not sit of the surface (unlike a sponge)

DRYING

Never use a leather, again like a sponge there is no where for the grit to go so you risk scratching the paintwork and causing swirls.

Use a microfibre drying towel (You can buy Meguiars ones from Halfrauds) these have a deep pile again so another step to avoiding swirls/scratches.

If you put together all of the above you can have a swirl/scratch free car......

If you already have them then call me and I will remove them first

Halfrauds do stock Meguiars Clay Bar and lube as a kit, also they do their own kit too (approx £15)

Also make sure you get the correct strength of Clay......if it's only mild bodywork contamination then you only need the equivalent clay.

VIP at Neepsend. Cosy sofas and free drinks while you await the excellent job!!!

Yes nice sofa's etc, but didnt find the car as clean as it could have been...Windows were smeared and dirt not cleaned from around cockpit. Not really bad but not good either.
