Teddybare
No actually back here on Planet Earth the REAL reason is not particuarly hard to find. French is the official language of the Olympics http://au.answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20080809201623AA8pzzz ......the founder of the Modern Olympic Games was French, and the Headquarters of the International Olympic Committee is located in Switzerland (not France as noted below) -- French is one of the official languages of Switzerland. Plenty more links if you care to look Any actual sources? Apart from yahoo answers, Australia? Wikipedia seems to contradict the statement that it was a French invention. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Olympic_Games
ECCOnoob
Sorry sir, I was only showing you a quick example. Oh an Wikipedia is hardly and "official source" either. Anyway, how about the Official Olympic Site. Would that be ny better... http://www.london2012.com/using-this-site/ Check section under "non English language use" .....The official languages of the Olympic movement are English and French... Never claimed it was. So the founder wasn't French? Switzerland has 3 official languages I thought, so why not have German and romansch translations before the English announcement too? Must they use every official language irrespective of which country is hosting? For example in Beijing was it French first followed by English and no mandarin? How ridiculous. For the benefit of one old man who speaks near perfect English. Just another point highlighting what a pile of BS the Olympics are.
