No actually back here on Planet Earth the REAL reason is not particuarly hard to find.

 

French is the official language of the Olympics

So the founder wasn't French? Switzerland has 3 official languages I thought, so why not have German and romansch translations before the English announcement too?

Must they use every official language irrespective of which country is hosting? For example in Beijing was it French first followed by English and no mandarin?

How ridiculous. For the benefit of one old man who speaks near perfect English.
