Sheffield Area Bus Changes -w/c 30th April 2012

Recommended Posts

Disappointed the Tesco service has been withdrawn, but it probably would have been more popular if went through the weekend and evenings as well.

Really the Tesco services only existed to keep the Park & Ride bus(es) occupied between the rush hours.

They were handy for pensioners etc but poorly used

If I remember rightly the tesco buses in the day were part of the origional planning consent and had to run for 5 years , however I understand that tesco then decided to keep them running. It will be intresting to see what happens to the current park and ride site - if anything

Interesting point bus man - is this like the "bus terminus" at Handsworth ASDA which was put in as a sweetener for planning consent (but then conveniently got ignored and has now been turned into a taxi bay)?

Supermarkets like to play the green/environmental card when applying for planning permission, then forget things later on

In this case, not only did Tesco not "forget" about the requirement to run a bus service for five years, but they kept it going long afterwards despite no longer being obliged to do so.

Buses 505 and 85 still use it.

But what about the improvements to the 120. Both the Lib Dem and Tory candidates for the Fulwood ward have claimed that they've fought for these. The Lib Dems said that improvements were coming..... surely they'll keep this promise.
