Halibut
Can you understand there is a criteria for a couple entering into marriage and that is they are man and woman. No matter how much certain people do not like this it does not change it. No, but changing the law to allow it does. Why don't you want to let gay people marry? Halibut
If the criteria was changed then it would have to be accepted. I do not beleive the criteria should be changed though Why not? as stated before there are differences between hetrosexual and homosexual couples. That isn't a reason not to let gay couples marry any more than the fact that black and white couples are 'different' isn't a reason not to let them marry A partnership between same and different sex couples is not the same because of the basic gender differences therefore they should be recognised differently. Why should they?
Halibut
See above. Doesn't answer the question. I think you must think that gays don't deserve the same rights as heterosexuals, or are less valid human beings or somesuch. I can't find any other rational explanation for your objection. Halibut
Goodnight. Hope you all enjoyed the debate. Not much so much of a debate really; you've failed to provide anything approaching a halfway decent rationale for your anti - gay attitude other than to maintain that they are 'different' and mustn't be allowed to marry because they're 'different'. janie48
The idea of same sex marriage is causing a division in the church. This of course would more then please the militant atheists who would wish to see a callapse of the established church of England. They are only concerned with freedom of rights and principle, and have no respect for church doctrine. Not all gay people wish to see change, and if they wish to marry they can have a civil ceremony.. Some gay people are christians, some are atheists etc. Why should the goverment interfere with the church.

Does this mean you are happy for civil same sex marriages to take place? If not, why should the church be able to dictate what people who are not christians be allowed to do? Why would anyone non-christian want any involvement with the church?
