Lambretta Motor Scooters

Recommended Posts

I see nobody has mentioned those horrible little scooters Alf Parker on Spital Hill used to sell. They were called Piatti and had a noisy air cooled engine, tiny wheels, and seat and handlebars that could be raised and lowered like a push bike.I believe they were an italian disaster. The Bond Minicar company also made a scooter at one time and there were also quite a few Corgy paratrooper bikes running about in the 50s.

Wasn't that 'Smith's' on Spital Hill who took over the old 'Lodge' pub? or was Parkers something else?

Smiths was on the left coming up Spital Hill, about opposite the entrance to Tesco.Alf Parkers was on the right, further up about opposite where the petrol station used to be.

Travelled all over Europe on my TV175 & We have some great memories. The only fault I had with the scooter was the long saddle. I changed by buying two independent leather saddles complete with Hand Hoops from Armando on Marlborough Avenue in Broomhill.

They were a great improvement, the long saddles used to soak up the rain & get into the sponge which wasn't good & you had to share the seat which limited the seat space which depended on how big your passenger was.

All in all, we had some great times riding it & still have some great memories.

Happy Days! PopT
